Parent-Infant Guidance Classes

Online

RIE is now offering online classes to assist parents during the COVID-19 crisis. Similar to in-person meetings, RIE Certified Online Parent-Infant Guidance classes encourage parents to provide an environment where babies can be attentive, active, exploring and aware of self and others. Designed to support children’s authenticity and responsibility from an early age, Parent-Infant Guidance classes help parents to be confident in their supportive role towards these significant discoveries.

Logistics

Classes meet on Zoom once a week for about 60 minutes. Facilitated by a RIE Associate, small groups come together to offer support and take pleasure in their infants’ unfolding development and play. Classes are designed to support the way adults learn, which is through repetition over time. Learning new behaviors takes practice and the Facilitator utilizes different tools such as video clips and articles to encourage self-reflection and growth.

Classes are limited to 8 families. Whenever possible, infants are grouped according to their stages of development.

Classes run continuously until the children are about two-years-old. Classes cover a variety of topics that are relevant to the childrens’ current stage of development. As the children grow, the topics change: With young infants it is often about sleep and feeding with topics evolving to include such things as motor development, level of parent involvement, creating safe spaces at home, limit setting, and sibling interactions. Whatever is relevant in the lives of the families at any given point in time is what gets discussed and the Facilitator helps guide the dialogue by sharing how the Educaring approach can be applied.

Topics for Discussion Often Include

  • Addressing social distancing challenges
  • Age-appropriate expectations
  • The importance of play in children’s learning
  • Balancing parents’ and children’s needs and wants
  • Establishing clear, consistent, and appropriate limits
  • Adapting the home environment as baby grows

Billing

Although the classes are designed to last until the children are about two-years-old, we group them into one-month cycles for billing purposes. While most families find the classes to be helpful and informative and therefore stay until the two-year-mark, families are free to stop classes at any time at the end of a month.

Each one-month cycle is $190. Each cycle has between 3-5 classes (depending on holidays and how many weeks are in a month) with an average of 4 classes a month over the course of a year.
